Just sitting around daydreaming of days when muni was a dollar, got you where you needed to go and you’d most likely *not* get mugged while riding. Sweet dreams, they’re made of this.

I’ve been working away on patterns for dolls for a while now, and only recently feel like I’m getting somewhere. The first two turned out to be not utter failures, but not far off. My tester took one look, and replaced her usual enthusiastic ‘daugh!’ [her version of 'doll'] with a meek and questioning ‘daugh?’ and my other tester said ‘it looks like a blue meanie’. As this is not my intention, I knew I had to recalibrate. No felt faces, it turns out. This is a photo of an early doll and a later model:

I think it’s clear which is the earlier one. ahem. Lets just say that the one on the left has come a long way, baby.
I wrestled with the familiar ‘give it up, sister’ failure feelings, but have decided that I’m keeping on with these dolly’s until I’m 100% happy with them. Can this happen soon, please? Things that help wrestle these failure meanies to the mat are conversations with supportive friends about creative aspirations. When these friends bestow unexpected fabulous gifts? like the ‘HANDY HANNAH’ hairdryer? Things get all kinds of inspiring. I was motivated to design this petit-poster in honor of Kate Ginsburg, the Handy Hannah gifter. Thanks Kate!

Also, I’m inspired to bust out the gocco and do a small print version of this ‘poster’. I’m super glad I stocked up on those supplies a while back because holyholy those discontinued bulbs and screens are *pricey* now.

I have a decent stash though, so it’ll be dollwork and gocco’ing for me for the next few weeks with one hand, and wrestling failure meanies with the other. ha!
How tremendous was the alternative press expo yesterday? Hickee and Doublefine co-hosted one of the finest booths in ape history, Karin’s stumpytown was filled with so much goodness, I would now like to establish residence in stumpytown! To show my appreciation for the sights and sounds of yesterday, here is an olde fashioned dragon:

The speed in which this little black and white dragon burned up the house was most impressive.
