inland empire

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Last night we went to the San Rafael Film Center to see David Lynch and his new film Inland Empire. I can’t pretend to understand what the movie was about, though I obviously think I have it figured out, as seen in this drawing of a frustrated spitting bear. It was pretty darned engaging and Lara Dern was great in her complicated performance. I also was previously unaware of how much I enjoy the vocal stylings of Chris Isaak. He and his sideman sang two songs before the movie and two songs afterward. That man has a yodel that would make Hank proud. Even with all that awesomeness, the musical highlight for me was David Lynch accompanying them on the final song shaking the worlds tiniest maraca, and his “tiny maraca solo”. Fine times.

Ask Jubilux, the happy pill!
I should have asked our cabbie from the other night about jubilux. He was happily munching away on leaves from A BAG OF MIXED LETTUCES and listening to the grateful dead as he mildly drove us over to Trader Vics. He said his name was Grasshopper, and his cab smelled like a rabbit hutch, no big whoop.
